The Seversky P-35 entered service with the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1938 but European advances in fighter design and performance already had rendered the aircraft obsolete. The P-35 was destined to see action in the December 1941/January 1942 in the defence of the Philippines but were outclassed by the superior Japanese fighters. It is of note that 60 Seversky P-35 served with the Swedish Air Force as fighters replacing their Gloster Gladiator biplanes until 1946 when the surviving aircraft were withdrawn from their fighter role then spending a further six years in photo-reconnaissance, training and liaison roles.
