The Republic P-43 Lancer was an all metal monoplane fighter supplied to the United States Army Air Corps in 1940 and becoming operational in 1941. On evaluation the Air Corps decided the performance did not meet it's latest requirements and used the aircraft as a advanced fighter trainer. The Republic P-43 Lancer was destined to see combat not with the USAAC but with Claire Chennault's "Flying Tigers" in China alongside the Curtiss P-40, the aircraft being acquired via Lend-Lease.
