The Curtiss Mohawk was the RAF's name for the Curtiss Hawk 75A-2 fighters that were designed for the French Air-Force but were diverted into British hands following the fall of France, a total of 229 aircraft ended up in the UK including a few brought over the English Channel by escaping French pilots who were not prepared to surrender to the German forces. The Curtiss Mohawk lacked sufficient performance for the European theatre and some of the fighters were sent to operate in less demanding theatres such as India and Burma.
