The Douglas C-39 was a military transport aircraft operated by US forces during WW2, the C-39 entered full operational service with the Army Air Corps in September 1939, a total of 35 aircraft being produced and delivered. It is of note that the Douglas C-39 was effectively a composite design utilising DC-3 type rear fuselage, tail and wing centre sections mated to DC-2 outboard wings as well as forward and centre fuselage sections, the landing gear was based on that of the Douglas B-18 bomber, as a result the aircraft was unofficially known as the DC-2½.
