Shorts Tucano T MK1 Trainer Military Trainer Plane

 

The Tucano was originally developed by Embraer of Brazil, when the Tucano T1 was selected in 1985 to replace the RAF's Jet Provost for basic flying training, Shorts strengthened the airframe and replaced the standard Pratt and Whitney power-plant with the more powerful Garrett turboprop. The operational cost of the Shorts Tucano T1 is less than one third of that of the old (1955) Jet Provost it replaced.

Sixty seven Tucano T1's are currently in service with the RAF's Flying Training School at RAF Linton-on-Ouse for basic flying training prior to advanced weapons training on the British Aerospace Hawk T.1A.
