Malmo MFI-9B Military Trainer Plane

 

The Malmö MFI-9 was a light aircraft produced in Sweden in the 1960s. It was designed in 1958 by Björn Andreason and built by Malmö Flygindustri as the Malmö MFI-9 in 1962 and a military primary trainer variant intended for the Swedish Air Force the Malmö MFI-9B, a total of 43 aircraft being built. The Biafran Air Force used five Malmö MFI-9B's during the July 1967 – January 1970 Biafran War armed with under wing mounted SNEB 68 mm (2.68") armour-piercing unguided rockets.

The Danish Air Force, Royal Norwegian Air Force and the Pakistan Air Force all operated the Saab MFI-15 Safari or the Saab MFI-17 Supporter which were licence built Malmö MFI-9B aircraft, the German company Bölkow built 200 MFI-9 aircraft as the "BO 208 Junior" under licence in the mid 1960's and the picture above depicts one of these licence built aircraft.
