The Fouga CM-170 Magister was designed by Pierre Mauboussin as a possible primary jet trainer For the French Air-Force, it made it's first flight on the 23rd of July 1952 and entered military service soon after. In 1958 Fouga was acquired sequentially by Potez, Sud-Aviation and finally Aérospatiale. Many CM-170 Magisters were built under license by Messerschmitt, Valmet and Israeli Aircraft Industries, resulting in a total of 918 Magister being built.
The Fouga Magister pictured above was attending the 2006 Biggin Hill Air-Show and is one of the few remaining in service with the Belgian Air Force who have given it the nickname "Whistling Turtle", they are due to be retired from service in 2007.
