The de Havilland Chipmunk T.10 was designed as an all-metal low wing tandem seated primary trainer to replace the de Havilland Tiger Moth RAF training biplane. The Chipmunk T.10 first flew in May 1946 and by the time production ended in 1956 a total of 735 Chipmunks had been delivered to the RAF and remained in service until replaced by the Bulldog in 1990, some aircraft were retained and used from 1956 until 1990 as covert reconnaissance aircraft operated out of RAF Gatow, West Berlin.

It is of note that de Havilland Canada also built the chipmunk as the DHC-1 Chipmunk for the RCAF. The aircraft pictured above is one of two operated by the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
