British Aerospace Hawk T.1A Military Trainer Plane

Originally designed by Hawker Siddeley, the Hawk first flew in 1974 and entered RAF service in 1976 as the British Aerospace Hawk T.1A replacing the Hawker Hunters being used for advanced weapons training. The RAF currently has 99 British Aerospace Hawk T.1A's in service including ten aircraft which replaced the 'Red Arrows' display team's nine Folland Gnat trainers in 1979. In excess of 900 Hawk's have been built and sold to numerous air forces as either trainers or economical combat aircraft.

It is of note that the Hawk has been built by McDonnell Douglas under licence for the US Navy as the McDonnell Douglas T-45 Goshawk Navy trainer replacing their aging T-2 Buckeye and TA-4 Skyhawk trainers, the most noticeable difference between the Hawk and the Goshawk being the reinforcement of the undercarriage and the addition of an arrester-hook for landing training on aircraft carriers.
