Every military pilot has to be trained, they will progress from basic trainers similar or the same as used by civilian pilot training establishments via intermediate trainers on to advanced trainers and finally to service types. Some of the aircraft used for training military pilots will be training versions of the actual aircraft they will be flying, others will be older Military Aircraft withdrawn from frontline service due to age or being made obsolete by newer types and variants but still retaining useful flying hours for non-operational purposes.
