The Beech UC-43 Traveler was built for the United States Army Air Corps and the United States Navy as a liaison and executive transport aircraft during WWII for overseas use, it was almost identical to the civilian Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing, the main changes being the addition of an automatic radio direction finder (visible on the picture above under the fuselage between the main wheels) and wingtip mounted landing lights.
It is of note that Some UC-43 aircraft were supplied to the British Royal Navy under the "Lend Lease" program where they were re-designated the "Traveler".
