The McDonnell F-101 Voodoo was a long-range supersonic escort fighter which first flew in September 1954, the arrival of the jet powered Boeing B-52 bomber made the escort fighters obsolete resulting in the type being progressively retired from the USAF from 1966 to 1972 with the last examples serving with the Air National Guard until 1982. The majority of aircraft were utilised by the US but some served with Canada's and Taiwan's air forces.
