The Kaman HH-43 Huskie first flew in 1947, initially powered by a piston engine and later by a turbo-shaft jet engine. The Huskie was an unusual design of helicopter having twin two blade rotors intermeshing and counter rotating. The Kaman HH-43 Huskie was operated by the USAF the Marine Corps and the US Navy, and served as a rescue and fire fighting helicopter, the Huskie was retired in favour of more modern and conventional designs in the early 1970's by which time over 350 had been produced by Kaman Aircraft, the majority being powered by the Lycoming turboshaft engine.
