Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka Bomber Plane

 

The Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka or "cherry blossom" was conceived by Ensign Mitsuo Ohta and used as a anti-ship kamikaze aircraft - effectively a manned flying bomb. The Ohka was taken to within 20 nautical miles of the target underneath a twin engined bomber or a catapult equipped submarine, it then made a rocket powered attack dive against the target ship, approximately 750 operational MXY-7 Ohka's were built.

  • Height: 1.20 m (3 ft 11 in)
  • Loaded weight: 2,140 kg (4,720 lb)
  • Engines: triple 2.60 kN (587 lbf) rocket motors
  • Cruse speed: 630 km/h (390 mph)
  • Attack dive speed: 1,040 km/h (650 mph)
  • Range: 36 km (23 mi)

Armament:

  • Single 1,200 kg (2,650lb) nose mounted internal trinitroaminol warhead
