Originally designated the B-29D, the Boeing B-50d Superfortress was designed around the Boeing B-29 Superfortress addressing minor problems and attaining improved performance by utilising more powerful engines, a total of 371 aircraft had been built by the time production ended in 1953 as a direct result of jet powered designs, the B-50 remained in service with the USAF until 1965 when the type was retired following the discovery of dangerous levels of corrosion in B-50 airframes.
